The Purpose of Matthew
The main purpose of the Gospel of Matthew is to prove to a Jewish audience that Jesus Christ is the long-awaited Messiah and the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies. It presents Jesus as the rightful King and His kingdom plan to reach all nations.
Thrust Statement: In the book of Matthew, the Kingdom of God is real, God’s promise is fulfilled, and salvation to the world is revealed through one Man; His name is Jesus.
Points:
1. Son of David and Son of Abraham v. 1
Son of David: David was the greatest King in history. God told David that someone would come through his lineage and of his kingdom, there would be no end. One and Only Son would come. King of Kings and Lord of Lords and of His kingdom, there would be no end.
