Darryl Morrison
Lead Pastor

Born in Phoenix, Arizona, Darryl attended Camelback High School, where he met his wife JoAnn. With JoAnn by his side, Darryl accepted a football scholarship and starred on the “Desert Swarm” defense at the University of Arizona. After graduating from college, Darryl was drafted by the Washington Redskins. During the first of his four seasons (1993-1996), he and JoAnn committed their lives to Christ and surrendered to Him as Lord.

Following his professional football career, Darryl entered corporate America and began working in human resources. After nearly five years in human resources, Darryl surrendered to the Lord once again, which led him to accept a full-time ministry position at Grace Covenant Church in Chantilly, VA. During his fourteen years of serving on staff at Grace Covenant Church, Darryl held various ministry roles to include: Assistant Chaplain of the Washington Redskins, Campus Ministry, New Member Assimilation Coordinator, and Assistant Pastor. Most recently, he served as an Associate Pastor for Grace Covenant Church in Washington, D.C., before answering God’s call to return home and pastor in Arizona.

On July 2, 2015, the Morrisons arrived in Phoenix to plant Valley Gate Church, a community of believers built on authentic relationships and the message of Jesus Christ. Valley Gate Church is committed to engage others, empower them with the transformational message of Jesus Christ, and be a gateway for them to enter into the very best God has for their lives. Along with their children: Faith, Samuel, Grace, Naomi, and Benjamin, Darryl and JoAnn are humbled to serve at home in Arizona.
